Ultimate Feng Shui Guide on How to Paint Your Bedroom – What to Use & What not to Use

Each color symbolizes something, and has a different meaning and effect on our lives. The colors in the Feng Shui are often times used for healing in different areas of life, and their use always depends on what you want to achieve or what do you want people to feel when they come into your home.

Colors, given that we are biological creatures, have a big impact on us. Colors affect how we perceive our environment and how we feel in it. Studies have shown that too much red causes hyperactivity, and that the children that were placed in experimental schools where the color red color was dominant almost climbed over the walls as a direct result of the excess energy that was caused by the color.

  • Red

The bursting red symbolizes the energy of fire, makes you feel alive and active, pulsating with energy. It is used when we want to do something fast. It stimulates activity – and for this reason, is not recommended as the dominant color in the bedroom and the living room. Even red curtains can cause insomnia. Red walls are also not recommended in the kitchen and the dining room, because they have a bad effect on digestion and stimulate excessive eating. Even big red details in one room can be disturbing to the mind, and contribute to migraine, impatience and anxiety.

Too much red in one area can bring about conflicting energy. That’s why it is recommended to only put red in small details in the living room. Open wounds, as well as some other injuries, are more difficult to heal in the presence of the color red.

On the other hand, the color red can be extremely useful, especially with shy or low-confidence children. Using red in the locker room or putting red in the details of a room, for instance, can help children grow out of their shell. Proper use of red is also said to stimulate passion and sensuality.

  • Yellow

The color yellow refers to the Earth and, in interior designing, is used to stimulate family members awareness of the power of community. The color promotes sociability and is more inspiring than stimulating. It is also more oriented towards the intellect and society. It motivates individuals to reconsider their relations and draws people out from introverted sense of loneliness or resentment.

Feng Sui experts recommend not to use red and yellow, since they belong in the potent group of colors, especially in the bedroom. They can instead be used as accent colors put in details of the bedroom.

  • Black and blue

These colors are water-related. Blue is relaxing, and puts emphasis on relaxation and peace, whereas black reduces the life energy and can cause depression. On the other hand, it is extremely useful when used in small amounts because then it can define ideas and intentions, helps concentration, and helps with precision.

Dark colors such as gray and black, can cause neutrality and lack of definition, and therefore should be used only in combination with stronger colors.

  • White

White belongs to the neutral color group, and is great to use as a base to effectively emphasize any other color. It’s therefore great to use other colors as details on a white background. White suggests purity and sophistication.

  • Green

In the Feng Shui world, green indicates the early morning and spring. It is the dominant color of flora and symbolizes growth. Therefore, it is used in the areas of life in which we want to progress. The wavelength of green can encourage improved bone structure and stimulate complete recovery. It also has a healing effect on the liver and gallbladder.

Too much green in one area however can create a ‘naive idealism’, as it can separate a person from reality. If we use it moderately however, it can stimulate our capabilities and positively affects our nervous system. Also, the color green can be used, if necessary, to boost a person’s confidence.

  • Purple

Purple is used to calm the energy of a space (particularly the lighter shades). It is not used in offices however, because it can have an effect on the workers’ concentration. In rooms where money is the primary objective, the use of the color purple will not provide the desired effect, because only stronger colors help with material things.

If you want to achieve peace and serenity in your living space, then experts recommend using cool tone colors like: blue, purple etc. Purple is ideal for the bedroom. Not only is purple an absolute trendsetter this year in interior design, but it will also help to refresh you for a new day.
